Strengthening the backbone
Major reinforcements to Alberta’s electrical infrastructure bode well for the oil and gas industry
With the first reading of Bill 50, the Electric Statutes Amendment Act, 2009, just prior to the Alberta Legislature's summer break, the provincial government put in place a key component of its Provincial Energy Strategy. That strategy calls for a "comprehensive upgrade to strengthen the transmission system by identifying requirements, technical solutions, timing, and updating of the approval process." Bill 50 updates the approval process by giving the government more control over the province's critical power lines.
