NEB proposes changes to many recommendations in JRP''s Mackenzie report (Mackenzie-NEB)

CALGARY _ The National Energy Board has proposed changes to many of the recommendations a federally appointed panel made for the Mackenzie Gas Project in the Northwest Territories.
The federal energy regulator wants to modify 85 of the 176 recommendations contained in the Joint Review Panel´s report into the environmental and socio-economic effects of the project.
The board says the desired end results of some of the panel´s recommendations need to be clearer.
It also says some of the recommendations fall outside its jurisdiction or apply to future developments outside the scope of the Mackenzie applications.
The Sierra Club, an environmental group, says it was "disappointed and dismayed" that the NEB has "brusquely dismissed" many of the JRP´s findings.
The $16.2-billion Mackenzie project would connect natural gas fields near the coast of the Beaufort Sea to southern markets.
